Nero d’Avola, Njiro, 2015 (Sicily, Italy)

image1-2

Punchy, dirty, dark and a bit sulphurous this native Sicilian grape has hallmark black cherries, olives and even camel hide – huh? Dry with very young tannin, nice licorice stick and cloves, but it’s as hot and as rustic as a cow herding holiday in the outback.
