mm Tasting: Legal Edge LLP (Eight Great Grapes) – 10.06.14

“We were looking for something entertaining, informal and informative that we could all enjoy together [and] Alex’s approach to wine tasting was perfect. The content was pitched perfectly so that the novice tasters weren’t overwhelmed and our aficionados also had their knowledge tested. A great way to spend a team building session and discover some delicious wine along the way. We’ll be calling in the Modest Merchant again!” – Sue Roberts, Legal Edge

Legal Edge (small)For their annual team meeting, the Legal Edge lawyers, having come from as far afield as the French Alps and having spent most of the day looking over the past year’s business, were simply after somewhere to lay back, casually taste some new wines, have some fun and eat some delicious chicken.

In partnership with the fantastic Le Coq restaurant (Highbury and Islington), in their small private dining room downstairs, the dozen or so of us sat around a large dining table. With a glass of top quality Raventos i Blanc Cava and a quick game identifying some jelly bean flavours to get the taste buds working we got started on the lesser seen varietal wines – wines from one single grape variety – we were to taste that afternoon. Thankfully the vast majority of them were new to everyone. How many would you have known?…….

Sauvignon Gris, Pecorino, Godello, Spatburgunder, Petit Sirah, Blaufrankisch, Mencia and Pedro Ximenez

With tasting sheets and some important top line note taking made during the session I was pleased to see that people had been taken by at least one or two of the new grapes. By the end of it all, ticks – each getting progressively bigger and more numerous as time went on – were abundant. The chicken arrived and I left them to their own devices.

A big thank you to Donna, Helen, Jessica and the Legal Edge team for such a fun afternoon.
