The Luberon viticultural area is situated between the Ventoux and Coteaux d'Aix-en-Provence appellations, to the north and south respectively. The Luberon vineyards are located within 60km (37 miles) of the Mediterranean coast, and enjoy the benefits of the gentle, south-facing slopes that run from the Mont Ventoux foothills to the sea. Syrah and Grenache dominate plantings and must both be present in the reds. Mourvèdre is also considered a primary red grape. Whites are made from Grenache Blanc, Clairette, Bourboulenc, Ugni Blanc, Vermentino and occasional inclusions of Marsanne, Roussanne and Viognier. Stipulations for white wine production here state that Ugni Blanc must not make up more than 50 percent of the wine and Viognier no more than 10 percent (the latter is also limited to 10 percent in rosé production). The climate is Mediterranean with typically long, warm days, characteristic of the wider region. The Luberon has cooler nights than most Rhône wine-producing areas, however, and this higher diurnal temperature variation helps to produce some of the crisper, more interesting white wines of the southern Rhône.

Acclaimed director Ridley Scott and his family arrived at the Domaine in 1992. Situated in the Luberon near to the citadel in Oppède-le-Vieux and close to the equally enchanting villages of Lacoste, Ménerbes and Bonnieux. In 2009, encouraged by the quality of the soils and the climates of vineyards, they decided to vinify and bottle their first cuvées, with the help of a local cooperative. In the years that followed the project, a desire grew to create true quality wines. They built a modern and superbly equipped cellar to vinify and mature the various cuvées in AOP LUBERON. The labels are all designed and drawn by Ridley Scott himself and message of "Health, Happiness and Elegance of Provence" and take inspiration from one of the very first owners of the domaine, . One of the most important environmental commitments concerns the health of the region's bee population. This is why the Mas, of about thirty hectares, is certified "Bee Friendly" and HVE.

Tasting note: Dense; creamy; concentrated nose of black strewed fruit; vanilla and black olives. The palatte is huge; with black olive and blackcurrant; fiery tannins and rich aromatic spices. After a while the tannins become effortless but still present with a creamy; almost yoghurty finish. Garrique; dried earth and prunes till the end.
Winemaking Detail: Plot selection of old Grenache, Syrah and Carignan. Carefully planned harvesting to get optimal maturity and to reach the best aromatic potential. The harvest is both mechanical and hand-picked; each grape is sorted and de-stemmed. The Carignan are vinified by carbonic maceration and then blended with the old Syrah and Grenache.Ageing 12 months in French oak barrels.
