Bordeaux is one of the most celebrated and highly-regarded wine regions, with the classification of 1855 solidifying the wines as some of the best in the world. Bordeaux is broken down into 2 main categories - the left and right bank of the Gironde, with many appellations and sub-appellations in those areas. The wines on the left bank are predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon blended with Merlot. The right bank is the opposite. White Bordeaux, found mainly towards the South of the region, is made up of mostly Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon. Bordeaux ranges from fantastic value, entry level wines all the way to First Growth Grand Crus that are amongst the most sought after wines in the world.

Now in its 7th generation Vignobles Lacoste is the story of a Bordeaux family through the ages. It was in 1856 that the family first bought vines and land on the highest bank of the Garonne 30mins SW of Bordeaux. Now, their 43ha of vineyards consists of 50% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc and the rest white varieties, predominantly Semillon. After generations of commercial growth, economic challenges and the technological revolution, it was in 2005 that Vincent (6th generation), decided a change was needed to move to organic viticulture. After years of chemical dependence and poor soil quality leading to a homogenised style of wine they achieved organic certification. No they make wines with gentle-extraction adding nothing but a little S02 at bottling if any. Fun, modern and approachable, the lables are an homage to the Nono the gardener at the Chateau for over 50 years.

Tasting note: Wild and herbaceous with deep; dark red fruits on the nose. The palate is super concentrated yet still bright. Rustic; rich red fruits; black cherry and cooked raspberry dominate with lots of dried herbs; fresh tobacco and some damson and sloe. Citric; blood-orange acidity carries it through to a big; juicy; moreish finish.
Winemaking Detail: Fermentation on wild yeasts, temperature controlled for a gentle extraction. After fermentation occurs there is no further pressing in order to minimise extraction and tannic structure. Aged 10 months in stainless steel before bottling. No fining, no filtration, with very limited sulphites added just before bottling.
