Story

Òrbita Venus, also known as Sindicat de la Figuera, is a small, historic co-operative revived by six farmers - alonside René Barbier and Sara Pérez - located in the village of La Figuera, high in the Montsant mountains of Catalonia. Founded in 1932, the co-op experienced decline but was revitalised by a dedicated group of local growers committed to preserving their unique landscape and century-old vines. Some vineyards are planted at over 550 metres above sea level, among the highest in the region, contributing to the wines’ distinct freshness and minerality. Cultivated on red clay and limestone soils, these dry-farmed vineyards are worked organically, without chemical treatments, allowing the grapes to fully express their terroir. The altitude, combined with the harsh mountain climate, yields wines that are intensely fruit-driven yet balanced with natural acidity and mineral complexity.

Winemaking

100% Trepat from high-altitude vineyards in Conca de Barberà, where diurnal shifts preserve acidity and aromatic clarity. Low-intervention winemaking: partial whole-bunch fermentation for lifted aromatics and fine tannins, with the remainder on extended skins (2–3 months) for added structure. Aged in concrete (~10 months) with no oak influence, resulting in a light-bodied, low-alcohol (~11%) wine.

Tasting Notes

Delicate red cherry, wild strawberry and rosehip with hints of white pepper and Mediterranean herbs. Light-bodied and silky, with fine tannins, vibrant acidity and a fresh, mineral-driven finish.

Food Pairing

Grilled tuna or salmon. Roast chicken. Vegetable dishes and Mediterranean salads. Charcuterie and light tapas. Tomato-based pasta dishes or paella

About the region

Conca de Barberà is a historic Catalan wine region northwest of Tarragona, officially recognised as a DO in 1985. Set in a natural basin surrounded by mountains, it combines Mediterranean warmth with continental cooling, preserving freshness and acidity. Vineyards sit at moderate to high altitudes (typically 350–700 metres) on limestone, clay and alluvial soils. The region is best known for Trepat, a native variety producing light, aromatic reds, alongside Garnatxa and Macabeu. A growing number of producers focus on organic farming and low-intervention winemaking, highlighting purity, finesse and a strong sense of place.
