Story

Château Sainte-Croix is a family-run estate in Provence with origins dating back to the 12th century, when the site served as a farm occupied by Cistercian monks during the construction of the nearby Thoronet Abbey. In 1924 the Pélépol family acquired five hectares of vines here. Initially working with the local cooperative, Fernand Pélépol established an on-site cellar in 1927, marking the move to independent production. The vineyard has since expanded to over 50 hectares and is now managed by the fourth generation, Florence and Stéphane Pélépol. The vineyards are planted on a mix of limestone, clay and sandy-gravel soils typical of inland Côtes de Provence, which help retain acidity and structure in a warm Mediterranean climate.

Winemaking

Fresh Provence rosé from organically farmed vineyards on clay-limestone and sandy soils. Direct pressed and fermented in stainless steel, with a short period of 3 weeks ageing in tank to retain freshness, clarity and a clean, dry finish.

Tasting Notes

A fresh, straightforward Provence rosé showing bright citrus and red berry fruit, with a light floral lift. The palate is clean and crisp, shaped by stainless steel fermentation and a short élevage that preserves purity and drinkability, finishing dry and refreshing.

Food Pairing

Grilled fish, salads, and simple Mediterranean dishes.

About the region

Provence is a historic wine region in south-east France, known for its warm, dry Mediterranean climate moderated by coastal breezes and the Mistral wind, which helps preserve freshness in the wines. It is best known for rosé, which makes up most production. These are typically pale, dry and crisp, often made from Grenache, Cinsault, Syrah and Mourvèdre. Soils are varied, with limestone, clay and sandy-gravel common, contributing structure and minerality. Winemaking is modern and clean, focused on stainless steel fermentations and fruit-driven, food-friendly wines made for early drinking.
