Story

Tierra Fundida, meaning "molten earth", is the family winery of Loreto Pancorbo and Gabriel Morales, based at their home above San Cristóbal de La Laguna in northern Tenerife. They farm seven hectares in Tacoronte and the Orotava Valley organically, with biodynamic practices, and make the wines entirely by hand. Wanderer belongs to Chica Reductiva, a line Loreto started in 2023. That harvest was a silent one: a large fire swept the island and the family suffered a loss, so for the first time there was no music in the winery. When it returned, the first song Loreto heard was Wanderer by Cat Power, and the wine took its name.

Winemaking

Listán Negro 48%, Negramoll 35%, Castellana Negra 17%. Hand-picked in September, foot trodden and fermented with wild yeasts in concrete, each variety separately and around 80% whole cluster. The wine was aged for nine months in large used French oak (600 to 1,100 litres), completing malolactic fermentation, and bottled without fining or stabilisation. 3,000 bottles produced.

Tasting Notes

Cracked black pepper, wild blackberry and crunchy red cherry, lifted by dried herbs and the smoky, volcanic edge of Tenerife's northern reds. The palate is taut and mineral, with the silkier tannins of the fresh 2025 vintage and a savoury, almost salty finish. Light on its feet, with real depth.

Food Pairing

Roast lamb, grilled pork chops or mushroom stew.

About the region

Tacoronte-Acentejo, on Tenerife's humid northern slopes, was the first wine DO in the Canary Islands and remains the largest on the island. Atlantic trade winds bring cloud and moisture that keep the vineyards cool and fresh, while the dark volcanic soils give the wines their savoury, mineral edge. Phylloxera never reached the Canaries, so the vines grow on their own roots, and the native Listán Negro and Negramoll lead the reds.
