The Luberon viticultural area is situated between the Ventoux and Coteaux d'Aix-en-Provence appellations, to the north and south respectively. The Luberon vineyards are located within 60km (37 miles) of the Mediterranean coast, and enjoy the benefits of the gentle, south-facing slopes that run from the Mont Ventoux foothills to the sea. Syrah and Grenache dominate plantings and must both be present in the reds. Mourvèdre is also considered a primary red grape. Whites are made from Grenache Blanc, Clairette, Bourboulenc, Ugni Blanc, Vermentino and occasional inclusions of Marsanne, Roussanne and Viognier. Stipulations for white wine production here state that Ugni Blanc must not make up more than 50 percent of the wine and Viognier no more than 10 percent (the latter is also limited to 10 percent in rosé production). The climate is Mediterranean with typically long, warm days, characteristic of the wider region. The Luberon has cooler nights than most Rhône wine-producing areas, however, and this higher diurnal temperature variation helps to produce some of the crisper, more interesting white wines of the southern Rhône.

Acclaimed director Ridley Scott and his family arrived at the Domaine in 1992, nestled in the Luberon near the citadel of Oppède-le-Vieux, and close to the picturesque villages of Lacoste, Ménerbes, and Bonnieux. This enchanting region, situated between the southern Rhône Valley and Provence, is recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage site. In 2009, impressed by the quality of the soils and the vineyard climates, the Scotts decided to vinify and bottle their first cuvées, with the help of a local cooperative. Over time, the project evolved into a passion for crafting high-quality wines, leading to the construction of a modern, fully equipped cellar dedicated to vinifying and maturing various cuvées from the AOP Luberon. The labels on their wines are designed by Ridley Scott himself, with the message "Health, Happiness and Elegance of Provence," inspired by one of the domaine's early owners. Environmental sustainability is a key focus, particularly the health of the region's bee population. As part of this commitment, the estate, which spans approximately thirty hectares, is certified "Bee Friendly" and HVE (High Environmental Value), ensuring that their winemaking practices contribute positively to the local ecosystem.

Tasting note: Deep; rich crimson colour with purple hues. Sweet nose of raspberries; blackberries and a delicate tropical fleck; with dusty overtones. In the mouth it is intense but fresh with crunchy bramble fruit and mouth-watering acidity. Gentle heat and powdery tannins add a liveliness to the palate. Unashamedly Southern French.
Winemaking Detail: All the treatments used on the vines comply with the Bee Friendly standard and thus preserve the fauna, flora and the aquatic environment. After being destemmed, the grapes are cold soaked before pressing to preserve their freshness and aromatic characters. The juice is then cooled to very low temperatures (c. 1 °C). Fermentation takes place for 15 to 20 days between 20 and 25 ° C, followed by maceration for about two weeks. The wines are racked regularly and aged in thermoregulated concrete or stainless steel vats, bottled when the winemaker feels it's ready.
