Story

Tierra Fundida, meaning "molten earth", is the family winery of Loreto Pancorbo and Gabriel Morales, based at their home above San Cristóbal de La Laguna in northern Tenerife. They farm seven hectares in Tacoronte and the Orotava Valley organically, with biodynamic practices, and make the wines entirely by hand. Wanderer belongs to Chica Reductiva, a line Loreto started in 2023. That harvest was a silent one: a large fire swept the island and the family suffered a loss, so for the first time there was no music in the winery. When it returned, the first song Loreto heard was Wanderer by Cat Power, and the wine took its name.

Winemaking

Hand-picked in September and fermented whole bunch with wild yeasts in large bins, using semi-carbonic maceration. The wine aged for five months in old 500-litre French oak barrels and two months in amphora, completing malolactic fermentation, and was bottled unfined and without tartaric stabilisation. 1,000 bottles produced.

Tasting Notes

Juicy blackberry and black cherry with sweet spice, liquorice and the subtle flint and smoky, volcanic edge of Tenerife's north. Semi-carbonic fermentation keeps it bright and crunchy: light bodied, fresh and crisp, finishing on wild herbs and a gentle peppery note. Best served slightly cool.

Food Pairing

Roast pork, grilled mushrooms or goat's cheese.

About the region

Tacoronte, on Tenerife's northern slopes, is cooled by Atlantic trade winds that bring cloud, moisture and freshness to the vines. The volcanic soils give the wines a savoury, mineral character, and because phylloxera never reached the Canaries the vines grow on their own roots. Listán Negro is the island's defining red grape. The wine is labelled under the archipelago-wide DO Islas Canarias, with Tenerife named on the label.
