Environment
As we strive to be as environmentally sustainable as possible in all of our practices, we are only too aware of the effects of our industry (however big or small) in damaging the planet for future generations. Bit by bit and as quickly as possible, we are committing to taking steps to mitigate these effects. Here is our commitment to the environment:
Re-Cycled Boxes
We are ensuring that all of our the packaging we use is 100% recyclable and ultimately made from 100% recycled material - the inners of our delivery boxes are made from re-pulped paper. Where possible we ensure that we re-purpose old wine boxes for all local London deliveries, eschewing the use of brand new packaging (sometimes to the detriment of the aesthetics - sorry).
From the ground up
We will also look to champion and bring to your attention the excellent environmental practices and initiatives of our producers, such as: reducing packaging and bottle weight, using renewable energy, re-introducing animals and fauna to the wild and supporting local infrastructure projects aiding soil erosion and sewage.
European Travel
We recognise that regular visits to see our partners on the continent could result in large additional contributions of CO2 to our atmosphere; but we don't believe it has to be. We are pledging, at first, to dramatically reduce our air travel, changing travel to trains and cars where at all possible. At some point in the not too distant future we would like to eliminate the need to travel by air entirely from our business.
Carbon Offsetting the Wine Supply Chain
We are working with a young social enterprise, Greenr, to give you the option - at checkout - to offset some of the carbon emissions created through the supply chain working with Carbon Offsetting projects such as Forest Carbon, Carbon Tanzania, CO2 Balance, Ecosphere the world over. Read more about the work they are do and the difference they are making here.
Courier collections kept to one day a week
We aim to keep retail deliveries and collections via courier to just one day a week in order to reduce unnecessary road usage and minimise fuel emissions.
Whilst these initiatives, and many more, are in there infancy we plan to maintain and grow these over time.
We hope that you will join us and encourage us to continue down this path.
