Castilla La Mancha , to the South West of Madrid in the very heart of Spain, has traditionally been known for producing vast quantities of table wine about half of all Spanish grapes are grown here. Whilst most vineyards lie at 500 700 m on sandy, calcareous and clayey soils , only grape that can withstand the extreme temperature (40ºC to 12ºC) and dry conditions thrive here; for whites this is principally Airen and for reds many of the usual dark skinned varietals. The region itself has 9 DO’s which, since the 80’s, have really taken advantage of new technology to greatly improve the quality and freshness of the wines.

Founded in 2006 by a long line of farmers, Bodegas Gardel is a family-run winery around the town of Las Mesas (Cuenca, Castilla-La Mancha). Their objective was to produce wines of the highest quality. They firmly believe that excellence is not a product of chance, and for this reason, only select the best plots and vineyards, convinced that the quality of the wine comes from the selection of only their best grapes. Bodegas Gardel has focused its efforts on the production of organic wines, respectful of the environment, and with the intention of transmitting the essence of nature into each and every bottle. This objective was successfully achieved four years after its foundation, with the organic certification of all their vineyards. We worked closely with the winery to modernize their own label, offering a modern take on a classic wine, paying homage to the iconic windmills of Las Mesas.

Tasting note: Ruby red in the glass. On the nose it is mostly red fruits. Aromatic rasperry and black cherry with some bramble and forest fruits aswell. On the palate it is quite smooth, with a mix of red and black fruits, some smoke and cedar spice from the Tempranillo. Surprisingly smooth and long finish.
Winemaking Detail: Organic from start to finish. Preventative care taken to limit the use of sulphur. Always harvested at night to retain freshness and keep things as cool as possible. When the grapes to the winery, they are delicately cleaned and separating from the stems and stalks. Once everything is clean, they ferment in stainless steel tanks with temperature control for 15-20 days. They carry out fermentation separately depending on the plot it is collected from.
