Cornas sits on the steep slopes of the southern end of Northern Rhone valley, just 100km south of Lyon. The region is on the western side of the Rhone river along other prestigious appellations. Cornas is bounded by Saint Peray from the south, and Condrieu and St. Joseph from the north. The Crozes-Hermitage and Hermitage are at the east separated by the Rhone river. The region is divided into three sections with the best vineyard in the middle, the northern sector along the border of St Joseph, and the southern sector sharing the border with St. Peray. Cornas appellation is restricted to this single town on the right bank of the Rhône in the Ardèche département, 7 kilometers from Valence and 12 kilometers from Tournon.

In 2013, François Tissot settled in the Coteaux de l’Ardèche to make his own wines. He purchased and renovated an old farmhouse, and created a 5 ha terraces vineyard and planted vines. Aside from his own production, he buys grapes or juice in other Ardèche appellations, and produces a range of 7 wines coming from 7 different terroirs in order to show the complexity of this fantastic rough and stony wine region. This includes Cornas.

Tasting note: Powerful and full-bodied from the terroir. Packed full of black fruits and roasted aromas. As it gets older the tannins will get rounder, it will evolve into more spicy aromas of pepper and liqourice, leather and truffles.
Winemaking Detail: The grapes are 100% destemmed before vatting. Fermentation is done with native yeasts. The maceration will last between 3 and 4 weeks with two daily punching downs, morning and evening. The wines will then be aged for 12 months in oak barrels (including 20% ? new oak)
