DO Valencia, perhaps less well known and revered than its next door neighbour with a bit of altitude D.O. Utiel-Requena, has its vines lower down on the plains between the mountains and the city. Made predominantly to the west of the city its reds, mostly from Monsatrell, Tempranillo, Garnacha and Cabernet Sauvignon, tend to be lighter but powerful, ruby red and intense. Whites lean towards the fruitier style using the likes of local grapes Merseguera and Verdil, as well as Macabeo, Chardonnay and Moscatel. Given the heat and aggressive climate the aging requisites for the wines are less than anywhere else so, for example, a Crianza wine will only require 3 months oak aging.

Finca Enguera was founded in 1998 as the lifelong dream of Pedro Pérez Pardo, whose family had been farming in the region since the 1970s, cultivating orchards, citrus groves, olive trees, and eventually, vineyards. His vision? To create a family-run winery dedicated to crafting high-quality bottled wines that faithfully express the unique soils and climate of Fontanars dels Alforins. Benefiting from proximity to the sea and dry summers, their vineyards produce fruit with superb balance—ripe yet fresh, with well-integrated alcohol levels. Now in its second generation and soon to welcome the third, the winery has achieved certified organic status across all its vineyards, remaining committed to sustainability and environmental stewardship. In 2014, they launched Enguera Planet, a research centre focused on combatting climate change through organic farming innovations. Their initiatives range from enhancing biological pest control to reducing carbon emissions and water consumption, ensuring that every step, from vineyard to bottle, respects nature’s balance

Winemaking Detail: The Finca Toñuna plot is located in the interior part of Sierra de Enguera at 500m altitude+. With deep, organic matter soils perfect for Tempranillo. It only needs a very short maceration. After just 3-4 days the skins were pressed off to finish fermentatin avoiding tannin extraction. 13,5% Vol., pH 3,45, TA 4,6g/L.
